How to get more Google reviews as a plumber

Ask real customers for an honest review after the job. Make the request easy, optional and part of your routine.

Written 17 Oct 2026

You do not need a discount, a competition or a script asking for 5 stars. You need a direct link and a consistent moment to send it. More requests do not guarantee more reviews, jobs or a higher search ranking. The customer decides whether to review you and what to say.

A finished-job routine you can use today

Ask after the job, not before it

Once the work is finished, send a short thank-you with the direct review link. The customer has an experience to describe. Do not pressure them to write a review while you stand beside them. If a problem remains, deal with it separately. A review request must never replace finishing the job.

Use the same neutral request

Make the request part of your finished-job routine, not a reward for customers who praise you. Do not survey customers first and send only the happy ones to Google. That is review gating. Google prohibits selectively soliciting positive reviews or discouraging negative ones. Leave the rating and wording to the customer.

Keep the link close to the thank-you

Use the review link from your own verified Google Business Profile. Check that it opens the correct business before putting it in a message or QR code. Send one clear request, not a list of places to rate you. A customer should not have to search your business name again.

Make a reminder the exception, not a chase

If you follow up, keep it to one short reminder after a few days. This is a suggested working routine, not a Google requirement. Skip the reminder if the customer has reviewed, declined or asked you to stop. Do not keep sending until they give you a rating.

Review request wording

After the job

Thanks for choosing [business name] for your plumbing job. If you’d like, please share an honest review of your experience on Google: [review link].

One optional reminder

A quick follow-up from [business name]. If you haven’t reviewed your plumbing job and would like to, here’s the Google link: [review link]. No need to reply.

These are suggested messages, not Google’s wording. Replace both placeholders before sending. Use the customer’s agreed contact channel.

What not to do

Google prohibits payment, discounts, free goods or services in exchange for a review. This applies to any rating, not just a positive one. Do not offer money to change or remove a negative review either.

Do not buy reviews, write them for customers or request a particular rating or prescribed wording. Do not ask staff to review the business as if they were customers. Reviews must reflect genuine experiences without a conflict of interest.

Do not hide the Google link from unhappy customers. You can offer private help to everyone while keeping the public review request neutral. A complaint is a job to resolve, not a reason to block a review.

Reply without publishing the customer’s details

Google review replies are public. Keep them short, professional and useful. Thank a customer without turning your reply into an advert. Never post their address, phone number, invoice details or private messages.

For a complaint, acknowledge what you can honestly verify. If you made a mistake, say so. Invite the customer to contact you privately to sort out the details. Do not argue about their rating or promise compensation for changing it.

Thanks for raising this. Please contact our team so we can check the job details and discuss what happens next.

Send it yourself, or put it with the front desk

If you finish a few jobs a week, the messages above and a simple checklist may be enough. Record whether you asked, whether you sent a reminder, and whether the customer wants no more messages. Check your Google Business Profile for published reviews. A request sent is not a review received.

Handled answers website chats and emailed enquiries, then helps turn them into jobs. You can add your Google review link during setup. Marking a booked job done triggers a review email when the customer contact is an email address. Handled does not currently verify whether the customer posted a Google review.

Start with the 10 free enquiries and check your price list before going live. See what the front desk does before deciding whether you need it.
